These last couple weeks have been crazy. We were supposed to have two concerts in the beginning of August, but they were postponed due to a couple of incidents. In mid-July, I underwent chalazion surgery due to having a small cyst on my lower eyelid. The procedure was not painful, but it was uncomfortable. Chalazion surgery is done under local anaesthetic, meaning I was conscious while the surgery was being performed. The whole surface of my eye and eyelid was numb due to drops the doctors put in. After the procedure was completed in under 10 minutes, I left the ophthalmology office to go home and relax.
As I was driving, I felt something running down on the side of my cheek. I looked in the rearview mirror, and I saw blood coming out of my left eye. Since my blood was not clotting I started panicking to rush home. I got stopped in traffic due to a red light and right beside me was this blue Camry. What is funny about this is I looked over to the driver of the blue Camry and this lady’s face was shocked when she saw blood coming from my eyeball. She probably thought I was from a horror movie. Anyways, as soon as the light turned green, I hurried home. Eventually I went back to the doctor’s office and they had to control the bleeding and insure the incision was closed.
After an hour, I was able to go home and continue on with my day. Ten days later, I started bleeding again but worse. My left eye was swollen and my blood would not clot. I spent about five hours in the emergency room waiting for the bleeding to stop and thankfully it did. I left the hospital looking like a mummy because the doctors had to wrap my head with several bandages to put pressure on the womb.
Around the same time of my bloody eye incident, one of our lead singers tested positive for Covid, which pushed back our performance in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After we both made a full recovery, we had to get ready for our showcase in Myrtle Beach. While on the way to band rehearsal, both lead singers got in a car accident. Thankfully everyone who was involved was okay, but both singers were banged up with one having a serious concussion. Due to the car accident and the advice from medical personnel, we thought it was best to reschedule our showcase. Both singers have been able to recover and we are thankful God has protected them.
Even though we cancelled a few shows, we acknowledge that our health is a priority.
Thankfully, everyone has made a full recovery and we are able to be back on the road to make music together. Reflecting back, it was terrifying going through these experiences, but I believe we have setbacks before breakthroughs can happen. As Kindred’s first full band performance quickly approaches this Saturday at Carolina Pines, we couldn’t be more excited!
