Since I had to catch a flight this afternoon to perform in Wisconsin (which I will talk about at a later date), I found it appropriate to finish writing about my weekend trip in Nashville. Even though I had a great time in Music City, I was excited to get back to North Carolina to celebrate with my friends on their special day. I was not looking forward to waking up at 3AM to catch my flight though. I was traveling alone in an airport for the first time and I had quite the ‘experience’. I was in such a long line from the moment I walked into the airport, security was taking forever and I was running on low energy. That being said, I was trying my best to stay patient and find the closest coffee shop in the terminal.
As soon as it was my turn to go through the body scanners, I got stopped by TSA. They pulled me to the side, patted me down, and then started searching my bags. A couple seconds went by and they pulled out the ching ring I bought at the Nelson Drum Shop. (If you are wondering what a ching ring is, I will link a picture to it down below because I think it is cool). I was joking with Dustin that I would get stopped by TSA, but I never imagined that it would really happen (unless Dustin planned it and did not tell me). I put two and two together on why the ching ring could have been a concern to TSA. The ching ring is made of metal and also looks like it has sharp edges. It was the only item TSA focused on and they had to make sure it was “safe” (as if I would ever hurt anyone). They eventually let me go, which was a sign of relief since I did not want it confiscated.
I find it hysterical being stopped by Airport Security, as I now get to share a somewhat funny story to my friends and whoever reads this blog. As soon as I was released from security, I hurried down to the closest coffee shop to get myself a drink. I had about an hour and a half until my plane boarded, so I made sure to reflect on the weekend and take it all in. I found it peaceful waiting by the gate watching several planes take off and drinking my coffee because I was not rushed to be anywhere. Not being rushed gave me the freedom to enjoy what was in front of me which is definitely needed from time to time. I will admit, I am not the most patient person in the world and I am glad I was able to stay calm through everything that happened with TSA.
After watching several planes take off from the runway, a thought occurred to me. The majority of passengers who board a plane only know the final destination of their trip, not the specific routes a pilot takes to get them to their location. As passengers, we can only hope to arrive at our destination safely. A lot of people - including myself - have a general idea of what we want in life (similar to the passengers knowing where their final destination is), but we do not know the exact steps to get us there. We figure it out one step at a time and occasionally have a pilot guide us. As for me, I have a lot of goals and dreams I want to achieve but there are moments where I am uncertain if I can make it. Regardless of that, I believe my pilot (God) will lead me towards the direction that I am called to be and I hope the same for you. (In case you were wondering, I made it back safely to North Carolina and I had a great time with my friends at their wedding). I highly recommend you support your friends and family on their special day, it will mean the world and you will make great memories.
