The week of our first show, we had to cram in last minute rehearsals since we missed several weeks due to a couple of health concerns. Personally, I was nervous because my health was not at its 100% best. To make matters worse, I was also lacking sleep, making it where I could not recover at an appropriate rate. Along with traveling and restless nights, I knew we were bound for a long weekend. Regardless of how I felt, I was still excited to perform.
After a quick scope of the venue, we started unloading the equipment from our vehicles. By the time we ran soundcheck and changed into our performance clothes, we were all drenched in sweat due to it being 96°F. Our performance consisted of 35 songs, which lasted a little over three hours. As I mentioned above, my health was not in the best state leading up to this gig. I was hoping to brush it off, but it eventually caught up to me. I unfortunately did a poor job of staying hydrated throughout the show, so there was a moment when I felt light headed and almost blacked out. Thankfully nothing major happened. To feel better, all I did was drink water and sit down for a couple minutes.
Needless to say, it was a long “first” day on the job. Even though I did not feel at my 100% best, I am still thankful I was able to perform and put on a good show. To me, that performance was special because everything I have gone through leading up to our first show, made it seem as if it were never going to happen. I made sure to take in every moment from beginning to end.
