Basal Reveal

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

A good drummer always comes prepared with his/her equipment. Depending on the venue, a drummer may be required to bring their own drum kit. I tend to bring the basic necessities that will allow me to be prepared and perform to my full potential. I typically travel with a 3-piece kit because it is easier to haul in my car and it is all I need for the band I am currently playing with. Along with my kit, I also bring my snare drum, cymbals, sticks, hardware, throne, and accessories. However, some drummers may take a different approach than me. To be comfortable on the drum kit, one must adjust their set up to their own liking. Drummers adjust their drum kit for comfort and efficiency. Since every drummer is different, most of us will have a different drum set up. Even though we all set our kit up differently, I believe every drummer shares the same necessities.

I have experienced several incidents when I played a gig where I forgot to pack a hi-hat clutch or an extra pair of cymbal sleeves. A hi-hat clutch is used to attach your top hi-hat cymbal to the hi-hat stand, allowing you to open and close your hats with the foot pedal. A hi-hat clutch is a vital accessory to the drum kit because without it, the drums could not function correctly. To me, it makes sense to overlook accessories like a hi-hat clutch or a cymbal sleeve because they are small in comparison to the rest of our drum gear. In order to not make that same mistake again, I decided to keep the majority of my drum accessories in a ziplock bag so I could keep track of them. However, a ziplock bag only got me so far; plus, it looks pretty whacky in my humble opinion. Therefore, I decided to spoil myself and invest in a go bag for all of my drumming needs.

Basal is a company that has devoted itself to encasing the equipment we (musicians) care about the most. Basal created an incredible ‘Drum Basics’ bag for the essentials that every drummer relies on. Having this bag allows you to be prepared and well-organized for your next performance. The ‘Drum Basics’ bag allows you to confidently store all of your drumming essentials in one secure place. In case you were curious, my drumming necessities consist of my snareweight no. #4, along with the leather inserts, moon gels, in-ear monitors, drum keys, cymbal sleeves/felts/wing nuts, a cymbal rattler, a shaker, extra tension rods, tylenol, and most importantly my hi-hat clutch. If you are interested in wanting to buy a product from basal, I recommend you check their website! If you have not already, feel free to watch the :20 second clip of me opening the ‘Drum Basics’ bag in my video section!
